Orchard Bars From Liberty Orchards

I recently received samples of Orchard Bars from Liberty Orchards. These bars are  really very tasty and delicious! Each bar contains no preservatives, is 60% organic, non GMO, vegan, kosher, dairy free, and gluten free. The three flavors I tried are Pineaqpple Coconut & Macadamia; Strawberry Raspberry & Walnut; and Blueberry Pomegranate & Almond. As soon as you open the wrapper on all three flavors, the aroma was so enticing. They smelled exactly like the fruits for which they were named. Two weeks later, I can still detect the fruit smell inside the wrappers!

Pineapple Coconut Macadamia

The Pineapple Coconut Macadamia was my favorite of the three we tried. The pineapple flavor was sweet, and combined with the coconut it gave the bar a real tropical taste. The macadamia nuts were the perfect complement. On the “con” side, the bar was a bit sticky and we needed to wash our hands after we ate them. We would order more though, simply because they tasted sooo good!

Ingredients: fruit (juice from concentrate (organic apple, pineapple), pineapple, coconut, organic apple flakes), organic evaporated cane syrup, organic tapioca syrup, nutmeats (macadamias, cashews, brazils) seeds (sunflower, flax), soy protein nuggets (soy protein isolate, tapioca starch, salt) fruit pectin, citric acid, natural flavors, sodium citrate, ascorbic acid, Vitamin E (to preserve freshness).

Strawberry Raspberry Walnut

My husband’s favorite was the Strawberry Raspberry & Walnut. Again, the aroma out of the package was mouth watering, and the taste of the bar was true to strawberrys and raspberries. His only negative comment was that the almonds were hard to chew for someone who wears dentures. He said the bar would be better if it only had walnuts in it and no almonds.

Ingredients: fruit (fruit juice from concentrate (organic apples, strawberry), strawberries, raspberries, organic apple flakes), organic evaporated cane syrup, organic tapioca syrup, nutmeats (walnuts, almonds), seeds (sunflower, flax), soy protein nuggets (soy protein isolate, tapioca starch, salt), fruit pectin, citric acid, natural flavors, sodium citrate, ascorbic acid, Vitamin E (to preserve freshness)

You can purchase these Orchard Bars from Liberty Orchards on their website. A package of 12 of one flavor costs $15.95, and an assortment pack of 20 costs $26.95.

Wholly Guacamole! It’s Gluten Free

Wholly Foods Products

Last week I received a cooler full of Wholly Foods products–Guacamole, Salsa, and Queso Dip to try. I have to say that Guacamole is delicious! I love that it is already prepared and packaged in a vacuum sealed plastic bag. To serve it, all you do is snip the corner off and squeeze it into a bowl. It tastes just like the guacamole we used to get in Mexican restaurants in south Texas. It is not entirely smooth–it has a few lumps in it, which is the way I like my guacamole.  My husband and I love guacamole with shrimp and salsa, so that is how I served it:

Guacamole with shrimp

I loved all of the Wholly Foods products, but I have to point out that the Wholly Queso Dips are NOT gluten free. Unfortunately for me, I didn’t read the label before I ate 1/4 of the jar of Queso Blanco. I just assumed that everything they sent me was gluten free, and that is my fault. While it is totally delicious, and has an authentic Mexican taste, it does contain wheat, and says so quite plainly on the label.

The Queso Dips are NOT gluten free

I shared the Wholly Salsa Hot and the Wholly Guacamole Spicy flavors with my friends, Rob and Belinda. They both told me they loved them and would buy them if they find them in the store.

Wholly Guacamole Ingredients: Haas avocados, Jalapeño puree (white vinegar, jalapeño peppers, salt), dehydrated onion, salt, granulated garlic.

Mi-Del Arrowroot Cookies

I have been eating Mi-Del Cookies almost as long as I have been eating a gluten free diet. I love their Arrowroot Cookies because they taste so good. I use them instead of vanilla wafers when I make gluten free banana pudding, and no one can tell the difference in taste. Of course they are animal crackers, so they do look different but they really do  make a good substitute for those other cookies.

Mi-Del has been in business for over 50 years, and they have used the same simple methods to bake their cookies since the beginning. They don’t use any food additives and they package their products in a simple paper bag. They also have Chocolate Chip, Ginger Snap, and Smores gluten free cookies in their line up.

The ingredients in Arrowroot Cookies:

Gluten free flour (corn flour, soy flour, potato flour, rice flour, corn starch, potato starch, xanthan gum), organic dehydated cane juice, canola oil, arrowroot flour, butter (may contain annatto), corn starch, honey, natural flavors, eggs, soy lecithin (used as an emulsifier), baking soda, sea salt.

I received a box of assorted Glenny’s Snacks to try–I was absolutely amazed at the variety of snacks they offer!  While not all of their products are gluten free, the ones that are were pretty good. Take a look at this assortment. There was so much I couldn’t get it all in one pic:

Glenny’s Marshmallow Treats–Chocolate, Creamy Vanilla, Peanut Caramel and Raspberry Jubilee

Glenny's Snack Chips Gluten Free

When I got this package in the mail, I couldn’t decide where to start. The first thing I tried was the Creamy Ranch Soy Crisps. It was the first time I had ever tried a soy crisp, so I was pleasantly surprised at the crunchy texture, and the taste of them. I will definitely be buying some of these. The Barbecue flavor was my favorite, which was surprising to me because I don’t like barbecue potato chips.

Nutrition Facts for Soy Chips (Creamy Ranch flavor):

Calories per serving: 70 (2) servings per 1.3 oz bag, Total Carbohydrate 9 grams

Ingredients: Low fat non-GMO soy flour, rice, buttermilk powder, cheddar cheese powder, (pasteurized milk, cheese cultures, salt, enzymes, whey, maltodextrin, soybean oil, buttermilk, citric acid, natural flavors, disidium phosphate, lactic acid), mid oleic sunflower oil, sea salt, tomato powder, autolyzed yeast, onion powder, dextrose, garlic powder, dehydrated cane juice, natural flavor, malic acid, spice, sodium diacetate.

The second thing I tried was the Gluten Free Oatmeal Raisin Cookies. They were moist, and soft, and tasted to me like  “real” (wheat) cookies. My non-gluten free husband ate the entire box except for the one I ate to try them out. For him to keep going back to these cookies, when he had some regular cookies in the house, says a lot for the taste and texture of them.

Nutrition Facts for Gluten Free Oatmeal Cookies:

Calories per 2 cookie serving: 110 Total Carbohydrate 18 grams

Ingredients: Gluten Free Rolled Oats, Brown Rice flour, raisins, organic sugar, canola oil, eggs, egg whites, cinamon, salt, natural flavors, sodium bicarbonate, baking powder (monocalcium phosphate, sodium bicarbonate, corn starch), vanilla.

Crunchy n Yummy Strawberry

Cruncy n Yummy Mango

I received a box of Crunchy n Yummy Fruit Snacks to try last week. Ihave to tell you, I thought they were pretty good. While they are a fruit snack, they differ from other fruit snacks I have tried over the years because they are more like potato chips than a fruit roll up. The fruit is freeze dried, and vacuum sealed in the pouch, so they stay crisp and last a long time without added preservatives. As a matter of fact, the ONLY ingredient in Crunchy n Ymmy Fruit is FRUIT. There is no added anything.

Mango--crunchy and crispy like a potato chip, but tastes like a real mango

I tasted both theCrunchy N Yummy Mango and the Crunchy N Yummy Strawberry freeze dried fruit for this review. They both had great fruit flavor that was true to what a real strawberry or a real mango taste like. And while I do like fresh fruit, sometimes it is just not feasible to have fresh fruit with you. For example, when weight is an issue, while hiking in the back country or camping, these little snacks provide a crunchy, tasty, lightweight snack.

Each 1 oz package provides 1 serving, at 100 calories. The Crunchy N Yummy Mango has 20 grams of total carbohydrate in 1 oz, while the Crunchy N Yummy Strawberry provides 11 grams.

Crunchy n Yummy Freeze Dried Fruits are gluten free, are certified Kosher Parve, and certified USDA Organic.

BUY IT:

Crunchy n Yummy comes in Strawberry, Mango, Pineapple, Banana, and Papaya, each made with 100% freeze dried fruit. They can be purchased at Amazon.com or find a store here.
