The folks over at Fischer & Wieser sent me some of their Mom’s Fresh Garlic & Basil Spaghetti Sauce. My husband and I tried it out for dinner with some gluten free spaghetti. To prepare the sauce, I first browned a half pound of ground beef, then added the jar of sauce to the pan, and let it simmer to evaporate some of the liquid. It smelled delicious while cooking, and proved to be quite tasty.
One of the things I noticed about this sauce, is that it had whole cloves of garlic and whole basil leaves in it. Since my husband and I consider garlic to be a vegetable, this was very pleasant for us. However, if you aren’t as big of fans of garlic as we are, you might not appreciate that. The second thing I noticed was that this sauce was thinner than other sauces I have used, so I did have to simmer a while for it to be the consistency I wanted. The good part about that, though, was that the flavors mingled better.
Bottom line is, we both enjoyed this sauce. It had a hearty garlic flavor that we both love, and needed no addiitonal herbs or spices to perk it up. Because it is a gluten free product, I could eat knowing I wouldn’t get sick.
Here is a recipe they sent me. I am going to be making this soon!
Italian Simmer Steaks
1/2 cup butter
1/4 cup chopped onion

4 beef steaks, sliced into 1 inch strips
Salt and pepper to taste

Melt butter in skillet; add chopped onion, green pepper, and sliced steak. Sauté until onions are translucent and steaks are browned, approximately 10 minutes. Pour Mom’s Fresh Garlic & Basil Spaghetti Sauce over ingredients in skillet. Bring to a boil and reduce heat to simmer. Add water 1/4 cup at a time as needed. Simmer 2 hours or until steak is tender.
