My 5 Favorite Gluten Free Products At Amazon

I like to buy through Amazon.com, mostly because I am usually in a remote area working, and because I can usually get free shipping, and their prices are lower than most stores that carry the same products. Here are my 5 top favorite gluten free products:

Pamela’s Ultimate Baking and Pancake Mix. I love this for pancakes, making cobbler type desserts, and muffins. I also use this mix in my salmon patties. It is on sale for $39.99 for a 3-pack of 4 lb bags, a savings of 23%.

Glutino Gluten Free Pretzel Twists are one of my very favorite snacks. They go well with lunch, or as an afternoon snack to keep me going until dinner time. I also crush them up and use them as a topping on casseroles. Yummy! Get a 12 pack of 14 oz bags for $68.46, a 29% savings over store prices.

Glutino Lemon Wafers. There is no other gluten free cookie quite like these. They are comparable to Nabisco sugar wafers, but with a wonderful lemony flavor. I look for them every time I go shopping, but they are hard to find. You can get them on Amazon in a 12 pack of 7.1 oz boxes for $42.28, which is a saving of 23% over store prices, IF you are lucky enough to find them in the store.

Before I started eating gluten free, I loved Campbell’s Cream of Mushroom Soup. I used it for lunch and in cooking. I have looked for a replacement for years, and now that I have found Gluten Free Cafe Cream of Mushroom Soup, I am in love with it. It is not only gluten free, but it is so dang good! It is a more adult version of Campbell’s, made with portabello mushrooms. It is very creamy and delicious. I use it in cooking and straight from the can for lunches at work. You can buy it by the case at Amazon for $35.79, and save 7%.

Road’s End Organics Gluten Free Golden Gravy Mix is a very versatile mix. I use it for the obvious, gravy, but it can be added to casseroles, soups, meatloaf–just about anything where you want to add a little more flavor or thickness. It is organic, too. a 12 pack is $12. No savings over store prices, but a deal none the less, because it is so tasty, easy, and gluten free.

Betty Crocker Baker’s Challenge Gluten Free Recipe Contest and a Giveaway!

This giveaway is now closed. Ladytink with comment #33 was the winner, and has been notified by email. Thanks to everyone who entered.

I have been eating a gluten free diet since April 2007. I know how hard it is to cook using gluten free flours, after having used wheat for baked goods for more than 50 years. But, just in the last couple of years, some of the big name companies have stepped into the gluten free market. Betty Crocker is one of them.

I have tried all of the Betty Crocker gluten free products. I love the Betty Crocker Gluten Free Yellow Cake Mix. It makes a delicious cake for any occasion. I have also used it to make a “dump cake” like we used to make at Girl Scout camp. It is very easy to make, too. Just melt a stick of butter in a 8 X 8 inch baking dish, dump a box of Betty Crocker Gluten Free Yellow Cake Mix on top of that, then spread a can of your favorite pie filling on top of that, and bake. I know it sounds weird, but it comes out a tasty baked treat.

And listen to this! If you have an original gluten free holiday-themed appetizer, bread or dessert resice, using any Betty Crocker Gluten Free dessert mix or Bisquick Gluten Free baking mix, you can submit it for a chance to win a Grand Prize of $5,000 at the Glutenfreely Bakers Challenge! What could be sweeter than that? But hurry up and do it, because the deadline is June 30!

Recipes will be judged on five key categories: taste, creativity, ease of preparation, consumer appeal, and appearance. If you are one of the 10 finalists, you will receive a Betty Crocker Gluten Free Baking gift basket filled with baking items and Betty Crocker Gluten Free mixes. AND, the finalist’s recipes will be featured on the Glutenfreely Bakers Challenge website, where the Gluten Freely community can vote to determine the Grand Prize Winner. What are you waiting for? get over there and submit your recipe right now! Oh, yeah, Gluten Freely is having a 20% off sale on Betty Crocker products thru the end of June!

To get you started, ONE of my lucky readers will win a prize pack containing 1 box each of Betty Crocker Gluten Free Cookie Mix, Brownie Mix, Chocolate Cake Mix, Yellow Cake Mix, and Gluten Free Bisquick Mix. This is a great gluten free prize!

Simply Potatoes

This giveaway is now closed. Susan, with comment number 60, was chosen as the winner, and has been notified by email. Thanks to every one who entered!

One of the things my husband loves to eat is Corned Beef Hash. And one of the things I hate to make is Corned Beef Hash. I hate having to shred or grate those potatoes to be able to make it. I always wind up scraping my knuckles on the grater.Simply Potatoes makes my life easier, because now I can make that Corned Beef Hash without the bother of grating the potatoes.

Simply Potatoes makes meal time easy!

The folks at Simply Potatoes sent me a couple of coupons for free product so I could try these out. I am hooked! All I had to do was open the bag, and cook. No  more peeling potatoes. No more grating them, either. Look at how easy it was to make FabGrandpa’s favorite recipe:

1 small onion, chopped

1 bag Simply Potatoes Hash Brown Potatoes

1 can Corned Beef

3 tablespoons olive oil

Corned Beef Hash is easy using Simply Potatoes

Heat the olive oil in a large skillet. Add the onions and sautee until they are clear. Add the bag of Simply Potatoes Hash Brown potatoes. Stir a bit to mix the onions in with the potatoes, then lightly mash them down in the pan. Cook on medium heat for about 5 minutes. Turn the potato and onion mixture over, lightly mash it down in the pan again, and cook on that side for about 5 minutes.  Meanwhile, open the can of corned beef. Dice it up.  When the potatoe/onion mixture has cooked for the second 5 minutes, stir in the corned beef, then mash the mixture down lightly in the pan again, cook about 5 more minutes. Turn again, and cook another 5 minutes.  Serve with scrambled eggs and toast.

Simply Potatoes Hash Browns makes delicious Corned Beef Hash

Wholly Guacamole! It’s Gluten Free

Wholly Foods Products

Last week I received a cooler full of Wholly Foods products–Guacamole, Salsa, and Queso Dip to try. I have to say that Guacamole is delicious! I love that it is already prepared and packaged in a vacuum sealed plastic bag. To serve it, all you do is snip the corner off and squeeze it into a bowl. It tastes just like the guacamole we used to get in Mexican restaurants in south Texas. It is not entirely smooth–it has a few lumps in it, which is the way I like my guacamole.  My husband and I love guacamole with shrimp and salsa, so that is how I served it:

Guacamole with shrimp

I loved all of the Wholly Foods products, but I have to point out that the Wholly Queso Dips are NOT gluten free. Unfortunately for me, I didn’t read the label before I ate 1/4 of the jar of Queso Blanco. I just assumed that everything they sent me was gluten free, and that is my fault. While it is totally delicious, and has an authentic Mexican taste, it does contain wheat, and says so quite plainly on the label.

The Queso Dips are NOT gluten free

I shared the Wholly Salsa Hot and the Wholly Guacamole Spicy flavors with my friends, Rob and Belinda. They both told me they loved them and would buy them if they find them in the store.

Wholly Guacamole Ingredients: Haas avocados, Jalapeño puree (white vinegar, jalapeño peppers, salt), dehydrated onion, salt, granulated garlic.

Nutrition Facts: Serving size 2 Tablespoons, Calories per serving 60, Totat fat 5 g, Carbohydrate 3 g

Mi-Del Gluten Free Cookies Review & Giveaway

This giveaway is now closed. The winners are Christine, Angela, and Sylvie W. They have each won a coupon good for a free bag of Mi-Del Cookies, and have been notified by email that they have won. Thanks to everyone who entered the giveaway.

Mi-Del Arrowroot Cookies

I have been eating Mi-Del Cookies almost as long as I have been eating a gluten free diet. I love their Arrowroot Cookies because they taste so good. I use them instead of vanilla wafers when I make gluten free banana pudding, and no one can tell the difference in taste. Of course they are animal crackers, so they do look different but they really do  make a good substitute for those other cookies.

Mi-Del has been in business for over 50 years, and they have used the same simple methods to bake their cookies since the beginning. They don’t use any food additives and they package their products in a simple paper bag. They also have Chocolate Chip, Ginger Snap, and Smores gluten free cookies in their line up.

The ingredients in Arrowroot Cookies:

Gluten free flour (corn flour, soy flour, potato flour, rice flour, corn starch, potato starch, xanthan gum), organic dehydated cane juice, canola oil, arrowroot flour, butter (may contain annatto), corn starch, honey, natural flavors, eggs, soy lecithin (used as an emulsifier), baking soda, sea salt.

Nutrition Facts:

Serving size 10 cookies, Calories 130, Carbohydrate 23g

MI-Del is giving away three free product coupons for their cookies, one (1) free product coupon to each of three (3) winners. To enter, just hop over to their website, take a look at their product line, then come back and leave a comment to let me know which cookie you would to try. This is the mandatory entry, and must be done in order to win a prize.
